PROJECTS – kimbagap
Sometimes also known as Sinclairs Gap, this area is the gap between the northern and southern Middleback Range. The gap is due to synformal keel structures in the ranges and also to a series of NW-trending faults that locally offset the BIF and other units.
On the west side of Kimba Gap there is a strong aeromagnetic anomaly and ridge of jaspilite about 3.5-4km long that appears to represent the main Middleback Range sequence albeit offset 4-5km NW from the gap in the ranges. There is no recorded drilling of this anomaly but it is of similar strength to many of the typical Middleback Range BIFs and could host a potentially significant magnetite resource.
At the southern end of the BIF outcrop and aeromagnetic anomaly is a small gravity anomaly that was identified as a potential hematite target analogous to the gravity anomaly over Iron Duke at the southern end of the Middleback Range. Drilling by SAIOG in 2003 intersected a mafic plug.
A small (1500m long) N-S elongate magnetic high, centred at 6933500E 6328450N on the boundary between EL3018 and EL3125 has a subtle 1mgal gravity high and intersecting NNE and NNW faults (Cowan, 2005a). It may be a potential hematite target.
